For most daily driving in Johor, an EV is practical if you can charge where you park and your usual day is well within the car's real-world range. Work out your own daily distance first, then compare it with the range: the Dongfeng Vigo is rated at 471 km (CLTC) and the Dongfeng 007 Premium up to 650 km (CLTC). Real range is lower and depends on speed, weather, air-con and charger.

Start with your own daily distance
Add up a normal day: home to work, school runs, errands and the drive back. Check the odometer for a week if you are not sure. If that figure is a small part of the car's range, you will not need to think about charging every day. The published range is measured on the CLTC test cycle, so treat it as a guide and expect less in everyday use.
Where will you charge?
Charging at home or work is what makes an EV easy day to day. Both the Vigo and the 007 take AC charging at up to 6.6 kW, so a near-empty Vigo battery (51.87 kWh) needs about 9 hours on a 6.6 kW wall box: an overnight charge. If you live in a condo or a managed estate, ask the management about charging first. For longer trips, DC fast charging is faster: the Vigo accepts up to 167 kW and the 007 up to 200 kW, depending on the charger.
Heat, rain and traffic
Air-con works hard in Johor's heat, and that uses battery energy, so expect it to take some range. Stop-start traffic is easier on an EV than on a petrol car, because regenerative braking recovers some energy when you slow down. High motorway speeds use more energy than city driving. None of this stops an EV working day to day; it is why real-world range is a range, not a fixed number.
Questions to ask yourself
- Can I charge where I park, at home or at work?
- Is my usual day well inside the car's real-world range?
- Do I drive long distances often enough to need DC fast charging?
- Do I know who services the car, and how often? Ours is every 10,000 km.
Try it before you decide
The best test is your own drive. Book a test drive at our Johor Bahru 3S centre, ask about charging at your home, and bring your usual questions. Our guide to the EV test drive checklist tells you what to look for.

Questions
Is 471 km of range enough for daily driving?
For most people, a normal day is far shorter than that. The 471 km figure is the Dongfeng Vigo's CLTC rating and real range is lower, so compare it with your own daily distance and ask us about your usual routes.
Can I charge an EV at home in Johor?
Usually yes, with an AC wall box installed by a licensed electrician. Condos and managed estates may have their own rules, so ask the management first.
Does the air-con reduce range?
Yes, the air-con uses battery energy, so some range is used in Johor's heat. It is one of the reasons real-world range is lower than the CLTC figure.
