An EV needs less routine maintenance than a petrol car because it has no engine oil, spark plugs or exhaust, but it still needs regular servicing. Tyres, brakes, brake fluid, the cabin air filter, coolant circuits, the 12V battery, suspension and software checks all matter, and the high-voltage system should only be handled by trained technicians. At Dongfeng Johor Bahru, scheduled service is every 10,000 km.

What you no longer need to do
A battery electric car has no engine, so there are no engine oil changes, spark plugs, timing belt or exhaust to look after. That is the main reason routine upkeep is simpler than on a petrol car.
What still needs regular attention
- Tyres: check pressure often, and ask about rotation and alignment. EVs are heavy and deliver torque instantly, which can wear tyres faster.
- Brakes: regenerative braking saves the pads, but discs that are rarely used can rust in humid weather, and brake fluid ages over time.
- Cabin air filter and aircon: hot, humid Malaysian weather keeps the aircon working hard, so filters and vents need regular attention.
- Coolant: the battery and motor have their own cooling circuits, checked and changed as the service schedule says.
- 12V battery, wipers, lights and suspension: still there, still wear, still checked at every service.
Software and health checks
Modern EVs run on software. At a service, the technician can read the car's fault records, check for available software updates and look over the charging port and cables. Ask the centre what is included in your service visit.
Leave the high-voltage system to trained technicians
An EV's battery and the orange high-voltage cables carry dangerous voltage. Do not open, test or repair them yourself, and do not let an untrained workshop do it. If a warning light comes on, stop safely and contact a service centre.

Questions
Do electric cars need servicing?
Yes. An EV has fewer moving parts than a petrol car, but tyres, brakes, fluids, filters, suspension and software still need regular checks.
Do EVs need an oil change?
A battery electric car has no engine, so there is no engine oil to change. Other fluids, such as brake fluid and coolant, are still serviced on schedule.
How often should I service a Dongfeng EV?
Every 10,000 km at our Johor Bahru 3S centre. WhatsApp us your model and mileage to book.
Can I check or repair the high-voltage battery myself?
No. High-voltage parts carry dangerous voltage and need trained technicians with the right tools. Contact a service centre instead.
